Chumash Bereshit Sedra א Chapter 1 Verse 8

Verse 8 closes the second day of Creation. Hashem call the heavens שמים  Shammayim, and there was evening and morning a second day.

The one word that is interesting in this verse is the word שמים.  We can take the word apart and find out what it is made of:

שם  מים  -

שם There
מים Water

Where does water come from?  There - the heavens.  We can see this when we hear the rain, and other forms of precipitation.

The fact is that the Earth has always had the same amount of water.  The only way that the Earth can get more water is by having it delivered by comets or by cosmic dust.  This might have been the way that God- brought the water here on Earth.

Water is a precious resource. We are the ones who are the guardians of our water.  Only a small percentage of the total water is available for the whole living population on Earth to use.  Most of the water is in the salty oceans, and most is locked up in the glaciers.  (not that we really want the glaciers to melt, that would be too much global warming!)  So the fresh water supplies are limited.
We have to make sure that we conserve our clean water supply,
