This is the book that I use to teach Hebrew Grammar. It is up-to-date, and teaches Modern Hebrew, but without all the names of the verbal constructions. It is for people who want to be able to speak Hebrew fast. I use this after the Talmud Torah book. this is the link on Amazon to the print book. http://amzn.to/1P4TqlX For the first part of the book, they do print the transliteration under the Hebrew. but since I have learned how to read Hebrew, I can't understand the English transliteration anymore! I have also bought copies at Tefillin Beit El http://www.en.tefillin.co.il/index.php?homeen=1 and mailed them to students.
It says that you don't need a teacher, and you can buy a copy of the book that comes with a CD http://amzn.to/1P4TGl5 and if you remember to put on the CD, and don't lose them, they will be a good resource for you.
Of course there is nothing like taking lessons with a teacher, and using the CD's to go over as homework! I think that this is the best strategy!
