Psalms 1 Verses 1-3

This Psalm starts the whole book of Psalms in a very dramatic way.

In the first verse, we have 3 action verbs,  הלך עמד ישב , these are the three actions that we do every day and the Psalmist is warning us not to use these actions to walk in the advice of the wicked, stand in the place of sinners or sit in the place of clowns, or lightheadedness.

The second verse describes the correct behavior, a person who meditates on the Torah, the instructions of the Lord day and night.

The third verse describes how that person feels.  In the days of the Bible, agriculture was very important and this verse takes this metaphor and we feel how it is to be a tree on the banks of a stream, giving fruit at its proper time, the leaves not withering and everything that a person does succeeds.

What a start to the book of devotion.  In these three verses, we have the paradigm of the proper life!

Homework:
Read these verses in Hebrew, and write the person, number, gender, binyan, translation of all the verbs.
