This verse Hashem is telling us how to make Teshuva. Genesis chapter 4 verse 7
This is the paradigm for us to improve our actions.
First we must know what the sin is, then we improve ourselves, and if not we know that the sin will be waiting for us, But, if we improve ourselves, we can rule over it.
But did Kain do this? No, he went along with his natural impulses and took Hevel out into the field and they had an argument. What it was about it very unclear, but what we do know is that Kain killed Hevel, and it is implied that he killed Hevel with his hands! Hevel fell to the ground, which opened up its mouth to receive his blood. We see the phrase "The Earth opened up its mouth" once again in the Parshat of Korach when the Earth opened up its mouth to swallow Korach and his 250 followers.
The big question, is if we in our time have mastered ourselves? Can we make true Teshuva? Well, we have the template right here. Only if we can overrule the sin.
Let's Make Tshuva.
