If you are interested in Biblical Hebrew and want to try to start on your own, or to get a short introduction before taking classes then here are some resources for you, for free!
This site has a beginning lesson in Hebrew, with translations of the dialogs into English, but no transliteration. I would use it after the student can read Hebrew, but needs the vowels.

This is a site that speaks about Biblical Hebrew, in English, worth a look:
This is not to be used in class, but as a background text to know the hows and whys of Biblical Hebrew.
http://www.balashon.com/
This is an explanation about the Hebrew Verb, also in English but very detailed. Also not for in-
class, use but great to get an understanding of the Hebrew Verb.
http://www.lookstein.org/articles/hebverb.pdf
Of course you can learn Biblical Hebrew on this site: www.live-hebrew.net
This is one of the books that I use in class, when teaching Biblical Hebrew, it has a very good overview of all the different forms of the nouns, verbs and at the end we learn from the book of Yona.
You can get it from Amazon or there might be a used copy on e-bay.
