And Hashem saw the light and it was good, and Hashem made a separation between the light and the darkness.
This is the second time that we see the word "Darkness" This was not a physical darkness that we can feel now. At this point of time there was no physical light either. Both of these entities were spritual. But Hashem is making the first value judgement and he says that the light is good. It doesn't follow that the darkness is bad. In order to see light, we need to have an opposite. So Darkness can be a good thing too.
Just try to sleep well in a hospital. The light is on there all the time, especially in the Emergency room.
So there is a place for light, and a place for darkness.
Thank you for reading my meditation about the Chumash. I will keep writing when I have time an inpiration which don't always go together.
