The letter ע Ayin is a classic throat letter, but most English speakers can't really say it. It is usually said like the א as a place holder for the sound of the vowel.

ע Handwriting and block letter:

Lets say all the Hebrews letters that we know now!

א ג ד ה ו ז ח ט י ל מ ם נ ן ס ע ר שׁ שׂ ת

Let's say the ע with all the vowels:

עִ	עֵ	עֶ	עַ	עָ
ee	ey	eh	aah	aaah
	עֲ	עֻ	עוּ	עוֹ
	ah	oo	oo	ohh

You might notice that there is no shva ְ for the ע That is because it is a throat letter and most of the time we use the עֲ instead!

עַל	על	on
עָלָה	עלה	go up
עֲדַיִן	עדין	still, yet
עֲדַיִן לֹא	עדין לא	not yet
עַיִן	עין	eye
דֵּעָה	דעה	knowledge
הֶעָרָה	הערה	comment
מַדּוּעַ	מדוע	why?
הִשְׁמִיעַ	השמיע	announce

Now study the words, and put them in the correct place in the chart:

ע at the beginning	ע in the middle	ע at the end

Now we can use all the personal pronouns in Hebrew:

אַת	את	aht	you fem sing
הוּא	הוא	who	he
הִיא	היא	hee	she
אֲנַחְנוּ	אנחנו	Achnu	we

הֵם	הם	hem	they mas. pl
הֵן	הן	hen	They fem pl

Adjectives in Hebrew agree with the noun in person and gender.

There are four forms of adjectives and nouns.

Choose the adjective in each sentence and

tell about the similarities between the noun

forms and the adjective form.

אֲנַחְנוּ תַּלְמִידִים	אנחנו תלמידים	We are students
הוּא יֶלֶד גָּדוֹל	הוא ילד גדול	He is a big boy
הִיא יַלְדָּה גְּדוֹלָה	היא ילדה גדולה	She is a big girl
הֵם יְלָדִים גְּדוֹלִים	הם ילדים גדולים	They are big boys
הֵן יְלָדוֹת גְּדוֹלוֹת	הן ילדות גדולות	They are big girls
